TMEA SPECIAL AWARDS NOMINATION PROCESS

Purpose – To give recognition for exceptional support and outstanding accomplishments by a TMEA member/s to the advancement of music education in the schools of Tennessee.
Criteria for Nomination - Nominee must:
- be, or have been, an active member of TMEA;
- be, or have been, employed by a school system/s or college/s within Tennessee for a minimum of 15 years;
- have demonstrated effectiveness in teaching young people through music and the ability to inspire positive attitudes among students, the school, the community and members of TMEA;
- have demonstrated excellence in teaching or administration in music;
- have developed, maintained, or supported an effective balanced program in music education;
- have demonstrated a concern for music education by active involvement in local district, state, regional, or professional organizations; and
- have demonstrated the highest ideals and professional integrity during time of service
This award may be presented to active members, retired members, or may be awarded posthumously.
Selection Process:
- Any member of TMEA may submit a nomination for this award. Required nomination materials include:
- completed nomination form,
- letter of recommendation setting forth nominee’s qualification related to above criteria for nomination,
- biography of nominee, and
- recent photograph of nominee
- Nomination materials must be received 60 days prior to the Tennessee State Music conference.
- The TMEA Executive Committee will review all nominations and make the final decision regarding this award.
Purpose - To recognize significant leadership by one or more school administrators in support of music education.
Criteria for Nomination: Outstanding achievement in support of the total music education program for which the administrator is responsible.
Selection Process:
- Any TMEA member may submit a nomination for this award. Required nomination materials include:
- completed nomination form
- brief biography of the nominee,
- statement providing evidence that nominee meets criteria for nomination, and
- recent photograph of nominee.
- Nomination materials must be received 6 days prior to the Tennessee State Music Conference.
- The TMEA Executive Committee will review all nominations and make the final decision.
Purpose - To recognize an individual, organization and/or a corporation who
have contributed in a significant way to the support of music education in Tennessee.
Selection Process:
- Any TMEA member may submit a nomination for this award. Required nomination materials include:
- completed nomination
- formletter of support,
- brief biography of the nominee, and
- recent photograph of the nominee.
- Consideration should be given to quality of service rendered, number of years involved, number of people affected, and service given beyond the call of duty.
- Nomination materials must be received 60 days prior to the Tennessee State Music Conference.
- The TMEA Executive Committee will review all nominations and make the final decision
Purpose - To recognize service in, and contribution to, music education and TMEA.
Criteria for Nomination - Service in the music teaching profession for 25 years and current membership in TMEA. Nominees may be either currently teaching or retired from teaching.
Selection Process:
- Any member of TMEA having taught for at least 25 years (not necessarily all in Tennessee) and who is a current member of TMEA is eligible to receive this award. Members are encouraged to nominate themselves. Required nomination materials include:
- completed nomination form,
- brief biography of nominee including school systems in which nominee has taught, and
- recent photograph of the nominee.
- Nomination materials must be received 30 days prior to the Tennessee State Music Conference.
- Eligible nominees will be recognized at the Tennessee State Music Conference.
Purpose - To recognize service in, and contribution to, music education and TMEA.
Criteria for Nomination - Service in the music teaching profession for 40 years and current membership in TMEA. Nominees may be either currently teaching or retired from teaching.
Selection Process:
- Any member of TMEA having taught for at least 40 years (not necessarily all in Tennessee) and who is a current member of TMEA is eligible to receive this award. Members are encouraged to nominate themselves. Required nomination materials include:
- completed nomination form,
- brief biography of nominee including school systems in which nominee has taught, and
- recent photograph of the nominee.
- Nomination materials must be received 30 days prior to the Tennessee State Music Conference.
- Eligible nominees will be recognized at the Tennessee State Music Conference.
Purpose – To recognize work by one or more young music educators who have shown extraordinary promise, diligence, and success.
Criteria for nomination – The award will be given to a teacher who has taught no longer than ten years, who is active in TMEA, and who exemplifies the profession’s highest standards of teaching, learning, and professionalism.
- Any member of TMEA may submit a nomination for this award. Required nomination materials include
- a completed nomination form,
- a brief biography of the nominee,
- statement providing evidence that nominee meets criteria for the award, and
- a recent photograph of the nominee (in electronic format if possible).
- Nomination materials must be received 60 days prior to the Tennessee State Music Conference which is March 20, 2006.
- The TMEA Executive Committee will review all nominations and make the final decision.
