Frank Hale

2006 Hall of Fame Award Recipient

Frank Hale served TMEA as Executive Secretary-Treasurer for eight years and has also served as TMEA all-state chair. He was a member of the Board of the East Tennessee Band and Orchestra Directors Association for a total of 26 years - including a term as President of that organization. Of his long list of accomplishments, Mr. Hale is known as an outstanding band director, having served for 26 of his 29 years of teaching as band director at Hixson High School in Chattanooga. During those years, the Hixson Band placed in ever contest entered and performed at very significant regional, national, and international events.

Mr. Hale has also conducted seminars and band clinics and adjudicated throughout the east and southeastern US, Hawaii, and Australia. Among his many honors and awards, he is a recipient of the National Band Association’s “Citation of Excellence.” Mr. Hale is co-founder and former director of the “Choo-Choo Classics” Marching Band Festival held annually each fall. He also established the World Symposium for Symphony Youth Orchestras in Budapest, Hungary, and the London International Wind Band Festival in England.

Mr. Hale is an accomplished performer having played trombone and tuba with the Knoxville and Chattanooga Symphony Orchestras and played with a number of professional artists. In his retirement from teaching, Mr. Hale continues to serve as an advisor to our association’s leadership and a mentor to the members.
