Marion Coleman

2009 Hall of Fame Award Recipient

Marion Coleman has taught music in a variety of settings during her 35 year tenure. She received her B.S. in music education from Tennessee Tech, and a Masters in Choral Conducting from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. During her career her teaching responsibilities have included first grade, elementary music, middle school and high school vocal music, and instrumental music. Bands under her direction have performed for the MENC Southern Division Conference, and have presented concerts five times for the TMEA State Music Conference. Mrs. Coleman is a past president of the Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association and Phi Beta Mu, and was state chair for the National Band Association. She has served TMEA as the All-State Band Chair and the All- State General Chair, and co-authored a new music column for the Tennessee Musician. Mrs. Coleman has presented clinics on various aspects of beginning band and the middle school band curriculum, and has conducted honor bands throughout the area. She is a recipient of the NBA Citation of Excellence and recently received the Outstanding Service Award from the City of Tullahoma.
